Excitement in the air over the seas - May 8, 2014
Representatives of our Nova Scotia Government and industry leaders have brought our spirit of the seas to Houston, Texas for the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) and people are taking notice. Experts estimate a potential of 120 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 8 billion barrels of oil just off our shores and the international market is intrigued.
BP and Shell have committed to investing billions of dollars in exploration offshore Nova Scotia, something else that the 90,000 + professionals at OTC are noting. Just recently, Shell Canada announced the formation of a three-way joint venture with ConocoPhillips Canada and Suncor Energy. This new partnership combines the best of the best when it comes to experience, expertise, and leadership.
Companies from over 120 countries attended the Houston conference and have learned about offshore Nova Scotia projects. Our provincial officials have hosted news conferences within OTC, along with Newfoundland and Labrador, to discuss and demonstrate our Canadian oil and gas exploration opportunities. The Nova Scotia Department of Energy booth, set up within the exhibition and managed by our industry leaders, is spreading the knowledge about what Nova Scotia has to offer.
This is the tip of the iceberg for offshore exploration potential. Our leaders are working together to represent our province, our quality work, and our passionate people. Those at OTC and their global associates are taking notice of what opportunities lay under the surface for Nova Scotia.
